Pau Kee is a family favorite tracing back to my grandmother. She used to take us there. Sat at a small table on the sidewalk set up under an umbrella. Right next to the street with some traffic cones in front. Ordered a dry shredded chicken hor fun (Kon lo kai si hor fun) and enjoyed it very much. Tender shredded chicken. Silky soft hor fun. Yummy gravy. Tasty soup. And that extra touch with the strips of chive. It was really busy (lunch rush) so it took a long 25 minutes to get the food but with nothing else to do the wait was enjoyable in a manner of speaking...it was entertaining to see a tour bus trying to turn onto the narrow side street with a parked car in the way. Took almost 15 minutes for the car owner to appear.
I have been coming to Pau Kee for over twenty years. In all that time I've not come across any better Ipoh Hor Fun even from Ipoh. The soup is tasty and not msg laden. Plus they give you a generous helping of prawn oil. Be sure to try out their chicken and wantan too.
